MINIMALISM
During the preparation of this album, I concluded that in order for the story I was intending to tell to feel complete, it would be necessary that some significant adjustments to my usual compositional methods would have to be made. I reluctantly decided to modify, edit, and even remove various constants that have previously identified my work. I also reduced the duration of several of the lengthiest pieces as well.
Much of this music originally employed excessive and complicated detailng that I eventually concluded to be unnecessary and dispensable. Composers frequently have a very difficult time determining which content should be eliminated, primarily due to their close attachment to it. In this case, critical decisions had to be made because without them, I would have had a double album’s worth of material on my hands. In any case, by default, this was how the title,
“Minimalism” came to mind.
That said, it is my most sincere wish that the development and subsequent sharing of this music will, to a significant degree, encourage the implementation of alternative musical fundamentals by improvising music artists as well as broaden the framework of reference of all listeners and supporters of this art form. It was a joy to create this music and I am proud to share it.
